I personally love reading young adult books. The reason is, lately, I have been on a string of good ones. I'm never disappointed with my time spent reading them.
Truth be told, I can not say the same thing about the adult genre. Too often lately I have been severely disappointed. Novelists who think they have something to say and never getting around to saying it. Or, the story never goes anywhere. Or the story is just terrible. Or it's just plain too long.
Now, on the last point, I don't necessarily mind a long book. However, I want the length to be worth it, not just long.
Currently, I am reading All The Light We Can Not See. I'm not sure if it is a young adult book or not, but it is suitable for a younger reader. It's long, but so far does not seem unnecessarily so.
I guess what I am trying to say is that don't skip over young adult books as and adult just because of the genre. You will more than likely really enjoy the story, and, it may be more succinct.
