I miss the bookstore. It was such a great place to find young adult books.
One could just wander through the bookstore. Whatever popped out at you, you could pull off the shelf and flip through. You could read the first lines of the book. You could get a sense for how long the book was because you could hold it in your hands. You could feel the weight of it.
You could see a book next to a few others and know that it was a trilogy. You would know whether or not the book was good based upon how many of it were lining the shelf.
You could go get a coffee, sit down with it, and start reading. No one cared. Everyone was a book lover. It was a place to connect, to collect, and to communicate.
It was such a cool environment.
I feel bad for our young readers. I know the internet offers so many great things, but it took away something beautiful. I even used to study at a bookstore. It just had such a great vibe.
Do you miss bookstores? Where do kids hang out now for the sole purpose of reading and sharing books? Let me know in the comments.
