Who didn't read Charlotte's Web when you were a kid? Man, I think that was one of the first times I was introduced to death in a book. I felt so much love for Charlotte and how much she loved Wilbur. It was such a great story of friendship and sacrifice. Two individuals just loving each other even though, technically, they kind of shouldn't ... being two separate species and all. The touching nature of the two made me long as a kid to have a special friend like that. Just go ahead and read the synopsis and tell me that you don't tear up just reading it ... I know I did. All Wilbur, and most of us really want, are friends. All the barn animals shun him, and what little kid hasn't felt like that? He finally finds a friend in Charlotte and then she dies! Then all her babies move way? Ugh, your heart breaks and then? The silver lining ... 3 babies stay to keep Wilbur company. The hope, the love, the enduring friendships ... that's what makes this one of my favorite young adult books.
